Notification and Coordination

In the event of a marine major incident, the affected state’s Operational Authority collaborates with EMARSGA and PERSGA.
The process includes:

  1. Immediate notification through the EMARSGA hotline and submission of the Marine Incident Report Form (PERSGA RF 1).
  2. Initial assessment by EMARSGA to verify details and determine regional impact.
  3. The Duty Officer will run the model to predict the fate and impact of potential marine pollution that could be resulted from the incident.
  4. Stocktaking with regional focal points to discuss outcomes of these modeling software with regional and international partners to highlight the potential impact of this pollution on the sensitive marine ecosystem in PERSGA region.

Upon being informed of an incident, PERSGA will

  • inform its member States of the situation.
  • activate the RSCP, if the situation warrants.
  • Mobilise the regional liaison team.
  • Mobilise regional and international expertise to support the region
