PERSGA showcased key achievements and progress in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region of global projects and regional activities carried out in cooperation with IMO at side meetings highlighting the excellent cooperation with IMO and Member States. The new technical cooperation and Implementation division (TCID) representatives took the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the region and how to enhance future cooperation and technical assistance between PERSGA and the new TCID division.

In addition, the roundtable and Donor Partnership meeting to support IMO Biofouling Capacity Building Projects, including GloFouling Partnerships project – Phase 2, which took place 26 June 2024 at IMO HQs, was a good opportunity for PERSGA to showcase good progress and achievements of the Glofouling Project in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. These meetings were held in the margins of the 74th session of the Technical Cooperation Committee (24-28 June).

As part of this project, PERSGA was selected as a Regional Coordinating Organizations (RCOs) to coordinate the efforts of the GloFouling Partnerships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The RSGA region was represented in this global project by 4 countries that includes Jordan selected as Lead country and Somalia, Sudan and Djibouti as participating countries.

The support provided by the project has had a positive impact in Jordan and in 3 other countries (Djibouti, Somalia and Sudan with the completion of their National Status Assessment).
