National Workshop on “Discussion of the National Action Plan for Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (NPOA-IUU) in the Republic of Sudan”

PERSGA in collaboration with the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, organized a national workshop in Port Sudan from 25 to 27 November 2025 to discuss the National Plan to Combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing in the Republic of Sudan.

The workshop aimed to review and discuss the draft National Plan and the priority actions proposed to reduce IUU fishing activities, within a defined framework and timeline for implementation, and in alignment with the Regional Plan to Combat IUU Fishing in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment, who presented the national efforts made to protect the marine environment and highlighted the importance of its conservation. He also emphasized the need to strengthen monitoring and coordination among the relevant national entities for the implementation of the plan, while commending the role of the PERSGA in supporting national efforts.

Approximately 23 participants from various national entities took part in the workshop, in addition to representatives of civil society organizations and fishermen’s associations.

The workshop included a detailed presentation and discussion of the draft plan, the review of national needs and priorities, and the identification of appropriate timelines for implementing its components.
