PERSGA held the workshop in coordination with the national focal point (Environment Protection Authority) for one day (1 April 2026) in Aden (Yemen).. The three main objectives of this workshop were: 1. to raise the awareness level on the effects of illegal fishing and ghost fishing gears (GFGs); 2. to understand the activities and roles of pertinent governmental organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to combat the illegal fishing, including sea turtle poaching, and GFGs and; 3. to share information and knowledge between the governmental sectors and NGOs on the situatable management of fisheries in Yemen. Different presentations, in relation to GFGs and Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU), including sea turtle poaching, were provided certain governmental sectors and NGOs. There was an open dialogue session at this workshop to discuss and propose more applied effective approaches to combat the illegal fishing and GFGs in Yemen. More than 30 persons affiliated to governmental, NGOs and academic institutes participated at this workshop.
