As part of the activities of the regional project “Sustainable Fisheries Development in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (SFISH Project)”, implemented by the PERSGA in partnership with the World Bank, the PERSGA carried out a capacity-building program on the technical approaches for restoring key habitats of environmental importance for the sustainability of fishery resources, including mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrasses.
The program included conducting a field survey of areas considered suitable in terms of restoration opportunities and potential in the Republic of Sudan, during the period from 30 November to 2 December 2025.
The field survey aimed to verify the mapping data of these ecosystems, and it serves as an important source of information to support future activities related to the restoration of major marine habitats.
The survey covered three main sites:
• A seagrass site in the Mohammed Qol area.
• A coral reef site in the Ankefal area.
• A mangrove site in the Kilo area.
The survey was conducted by two national experts, in addition to theNational Project Coordinatorand aspecialist from the Regional Organization.
