PERSGA in collaboration with the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME), and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu; organized a national training workshop on "Handling and Operating of Isokinetic Stack Emission Sampling Systems" during the period 10th – 14th of September 2011. This training comes in the framework of implementation of the regional project "Promotion of strategies to reduce unintentional production of POPs in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden coastal zone" which is implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
This workshop aimed at training national specialists from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on handling and operating of the isokinetic sampling system, and prepare a qualified team who will collect samples to be analyzed for dioxins and furans. The training was attended by 6 specialists from PERSGA and PME, as well as the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
The training included a desk indoor training, that was carried out at PERSGA headquarter in Jeddah and included theoretical lectures to introduce the isokinetic system and stack emission sampling requirements and techniques, in addition to the calculations related to the sampling process. And a practical field work –that was carried out at YANPET Company at Yanbu industrial city, included a practical training on handling the system and collecting stack emission samples, in addition to sample handling and system cleaning before and after sampling process.
