In collaboration with the Djibouti Focal Point (Ministry of Habitats, Urbanization and Environment) PERSGA organized a national workshop on marine litter management in 27 August 2014 in Djibouti city, Djibouti. Holding of this workshop aimed to show the results of the baseline visual assessment surveys on litter scattering along the Djibouti beaches, discuss the suitable management for such litter and propose most appropriate beach sites to be included within a regional marine litter. These surveys covered about 26 beach sites from northern to southern areas along the Djibouti coastline to assess the cover percentages, categories and sources of marine litter.
The workshop was held within the framework of the regional strategy for marine litter management. It was opened by Mr. Houssein Rerash, Director of Environment Department (Ministry of Habitats, Urbanization and Environment)t, in presence of Mr. Zaher Al-Agwan, PERSGA representative and regional coordinator of the marine litter program. About twenty-five-participants from different authorities, including decision makers from all Djibouti coastal states attended the workshop.
