The Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) in cooperation with the Saudi Wildlife Authority (SWA) held a four day training program on marine protected areas management and adaptations to climate change. The training program was held in the Eastern Province at Al-Jubail City from 8th to 11th September. The main objectives of the training program were as follows:1- To build the capacity of MPA managers and SWA researchers on the criteria for MPA site selection, zoning and management.2- To broaden the knowledge of MPA managers by providing them with the latest standard methods for critical habitat surveys, restoration and rehabilitation.3- To assist MPA managers and SWA researchers to function more effectively in their present position by exposing them to the latest concepts, information and techniques and by developing the skills required in the field of climate change and adaptation methods.Seventeen participants representing SWA and different Saudi agencies responsible for MPAs and conservation of biological diversity attended this program. The materials for the training program were presented by a team of experts from PERSGA’s technical staff. The training program was highly successful in achieving its objectives.
