13/03/2014 Red Sea Day Campaign ( Aqaba )

On March 12, 2014, PERSGA organized an awareness campaign that included a beach cleaning component at Protected Area No. 1 in the Aqaba Marine Park in order to promote the concept of preserving the marine environment among students. More than 65 people from the Moon Scout Group along with members of the Marine Science Station and graduates of the College of Marine Sciences in Aqaba Marine Park participated in this event.

The students made a tour of the Marine Biology gallery in the Marine Science Station. This introduced them to some of the main examples of marine life in the Gulf of Aqaba such as coral reefs, fish, shells and seaweed in addition to the environmental risks faced by these marine resources. At the end of the campaign the participants removed some of the marine litter accumulated on the beach.PERSGA organizes awareness campaigns in all member countries in the framework of its celebration of Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Day. Beach cleaning operations are used as a way to promote environmental awareness in general and marine and coastal conservation in particular.
